By recorded owner group

Counts reflect explicit owner-group tags. Untagged grants are listed separately and are not assumed to target any group.

Methodology

The index counts records marked open, with no deadline or a deadline today or later, whose recorded audience includes small-business. Forecasts, closed opportunities, and records tagged only “for-profit” are excluded. Each record counts once in the headline, including cash-awarding competitions and accelerators recorded in the directory.

Owner counts use explicit ownerTypes tags. A grant may target several groups. These counts are not all grants that a member of a group could apply for; general programs may also accept those applicants. No owner restrictions are inferred from missing tags.

Industry counts use the existing industry browse rules applied to recorded categories, titles, descriptions and audiences. Research mechanisms, including SBIR/STTR, are not assigned to an industry by these conservative discovery rules; they can still count in the index total. “Nonprofits in education” counts only records explicitly listing both small-business and nonprofit audiences. Industry matching is not a determination of an individual applicant’s eligibility.

The pipeline stores one snapshot per US Central date, replacing that day’s counts on subsequent builds and retaining 90 days. Week-over-week change compares today with exactly seven calendar days earlier under the same methodology version. Missing dates or incompatible versions display “Not available”; historical values are never reconstructed from current records.

Changes reflect deadlines, newly recorded listings, corrected data and changes in coverage. The index measures this directory, not the total US grant market. Overlapping owner and industry groups must not be added together.
